Charles Tongai Jindu, a Zimbabwean national, has been handed two life sentences for the gruesome murders of two of his close acquaintances, Cyprian Kudzurunga and Mboneli Ncube, crimes that horrified the nation in 2017 due to their extreme violence.
Court documents reveal that Jindu fatally shot Kudzurunga on January 29, 2017, and buried his body in a shallow grave in the Burnside area of Bulawayo.
To cover his tracks, he reportedly sent messages to the victim’s mother, pretending her son had left the country.
The killing of Ncube was even more disturbing. Jindu not only took his life but also dismembered the body and buried the remains in four separate shallow graves.

In an attempt to destroy evidence, he allegedly set some body parts on fire.
During trial proceedings, Jindu claimed that his actions were influenced by the use of heroin and methamphetamine. However, psychiatric evaluations found him mentally fit to stand trial. The court described his actions as cold-blooded and premeditated, carried out with exceptional cruelty.
Jindu was originally sentenced to death in 2018 for these crimes, which also included allegations of cannibalism, as he reportedly confessed to consuming the brains of his victims.
However, following Zimbabwe’s decision to abolish the death penalty in 2024, his sentence was reduced to two life terms, meaning he will remain imprisoned for the rest of his life.
