Zimbabweans Launch save our AFCON for Warriors

Save our AFCON

TODAY, we launch our campaign to try and save our 2023 AFCON qualifiers set to get underway in June.

We are calling it the Save Our Cup of Nations campaign.

In short, it’s called SOCON.

As of today, as we all now know, our Warriors will not feature in the qualifiers if, in about two weeks’ time, a resolution to the ZIFA boardroom impasse is not found.

We believe the Warriors are a reflection of our identity as Zimbabweans and a sporting extension of who we are as a people.

They cheer the spirits of this country, like no other sporting team which represents us, and when they lose, we all feel the pain, when they win, we feel like we are on top of the world.

We love the Warriors, because they are what we are, their weaknesses, their battles against the odds, their failures, their isolated success, everything about them.

It’s a credit to them that, in the last THREE AFCON finals, they have been the only Southern African nation to feature in all the tournaments.

We need them back in the qualifiers, for the sake of the players, and a country which believes in them, and the memories they have created in the past five Nations Cup finals they have taken part in.

In this campaign, we will give voices to many stakeholders, to air their views, as we try to find a way to resolve the issues which might see us being barred from the qualifiers.

We have already started today, as clearly spelt in our LEADER, or comment, that we feel Felton Kamambo, whose mandate as ZIFA boss was revoked by the Councillors on Saturday, should be persuaded to step aside.

That will be a good starting point.
