The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has announced the release of the 2024 Ordinary Level results, revealing a national pass rate of 33.19%.
This reflects a 3.78% improvement compared to the 2023 pass rate, signaling a positive shift in student performance nationwide.
In its statement, ZIMSEC commended the collective efforts of students, teachers, and stakeholders in achieving the improved results, particularly in the face of various academic challenges.
The rise in the pass rate is attributed to targeted interventions and enhanced teaching strategies implemented in schools, aimed at improving educational outcomes.
The 33.19% pass rate represents the proportion of students who secured a Grade C or higher in at least five subjects, including Mathematics and English subjects essential for further education and career opportunities.

Although the pass rate remains below national expectations, the upward trend has been widely regarded as a step in the right direction.
Reactions from parents and guardians have been mixed. While many celebrated the progress, others stressed the need for increased investment in educational infrastructure, teacher development, and access to learning resources to further boost outcomes.
Despite the gains, challenges such as limited resources, high dropout rates, and economic hardships continue to hinder progress.
Education experts have called for stronger measures, including better teacher salaries, enhanced digital learning platforms, and community support programs to address ongoing challenges and further improve student success.
ZIMSEC has urged candidates to collect their results from their respective examination centers and reminded them to verify their scores through the official online portal to ensure accuracy.
