Zimbabwe is considering the establishment of a National S*x Offenders Register to track individuals convicted of sexual crimes.
Vimbai Nyemba, the Permanent Secretary for Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, shared the idea during a meeting on the feasibility of such a register. She emphasized that creating this registry is a vital step in strengthening the country’s justice system and enhancing child protection measures.
Nyemba highlighted the alarming increase in s*xual violence, especially against women and children, in Zimbabwe, which makes the implementation of the register more urgent. She noted that the government has a responsibility to ensure the justice system not only punishes offenders but also prevents future harm to vulnerable individuals.
