ZNBWCB on boxers’ situation.
The Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board (ZNBWCB) has been notified of the challenges faced by boxer Kudakwashe Chiwandire and her technical team during their trip to Mexico.
“We are currently engaging the WBC and the fight promoter, in order to get a full and clear account of what transpired and will communicate once the full details have been established. The Board was engaged after Kudakwashe and her team had travelled and were only advised of the circumstances surrounding the fight at a very late stage and therefore could not take corrective measures to assist,” said the board representative.
The Ministry, through ZNBWCB, continues to invest in sport as evidenced by the quantum of resources extended to Kudakwashe Chiwandire since she started on her international boxing career. She was initially supported through funding provided by the Ministry for a month’s camping fees, which assisted in her preparations for the interim title challenge. The Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation through ZNBWCB offered further support through airfares from Zambia. Further to the above, Kudakwashe was also rewarded by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, and was hosted at State House.
In addition to all the assistance given above, Kudakwashe’s tile defence quest was supported and funded by the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation through ZNBWCB to the tune of USD$100,000.00. It is important to note that all this happened during a period when the nation was battling the COVID 19 pandemic, which is a clear testimony of the Ministry’s unwavering support and prioritization of combat sport in the nation.
Kudakwashe Chiwandire made history when she challenged for the prestigious WBC Super Bantamweight World Title against Mercado in Mexico last month.
