The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced that they are making significant progress in tracking down the armed robbers responsible for the daring US$4 million heist at the Ecobank Parkade branch in Bulawayo, which took place two months ago.
The robbery, which occurred on October 3, 2024, in Bulawayo’s Central Business District, is considered one of the most audacious crimes in the country’s history. To support their investigation, the ZRP has collaborated with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) and law enforcement in South Africa, where they suspect the perpetrators might be hiding.
The police have named several individuals as suspects in the robbery, including Elijah Vumbunu (also known as Mupositori), David Sawadye, Israel Zulu, Kudakwashe Mudzingwa (known as Umbro), Takafa Vumbunu (referred to as Naison Mahembe), Paul Chinake, and Brian Murape.

ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, speaking in an interview with local channel ZTN Prime, confirmed the ongoing efforts: “We are actively investigating the Ecobank robbery where more than US$4 million was stolen. Our investigation is making progress, and we are committed to keeping the public informed. Whether the suspects are in Zimbabwe or abroad, we are confident that their capture is imminent.”
The robbery itself involved seven masked assailants who overpowered the security team guarding cash-in-transit vehicles parked outside the bank. At the time of the heist, two Safeguard vehicles were parked in front of the Ecobank branch, with security guards in the process of loading cash boxes. Within two minutes, the robbers had disarmed the guards and loaded their stolen goods into a white Ford Ranger before making their escape.
