Claims of Power, Threats and Corruption Shake Mining Industry

Serious allegations have been raised against businessman Prosper Shumba, with claims pointing to possible misconduct involving officials in the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development.

According to information brought forward, Shumba is alleged to have close links with some ministry employees, including officials at provincial offices. These relationships are said to have influenced administrative processes, particularly in the handling of mining certificates.

There are also claims that mining certificates were moved or processed across different provinces under questionable circumstances. Some reports suggest that documents may have been transferred from Mashonaland East to other regions without proper procedures being followed.

Further allegations indicate that Shumba has presented himself as someone with influence within law enforcement and the court system. It is claimed that this perceived power has discouraged individuals from speaking out.

In one case, it is alleged that he had a personal relationship with a former ministry employee based in Marondera. The woman is said to have assisted in moving mining certificates between provinces.

Claims have also been made that she received gifts, including a vehicle, in exchange for her involvement. These allegations, however, have not been officially confirmed.

There are additional reports that some individuals who questioned these activities were subjected to intimidation or pressure. Junior employees within the ministry are said to be particularly affected, with fears of victimisation due to alleged connections between Shumba and senior officials.

Another serious claim suggests that Shumba was once found with a mining certificate book from Mashonaland East and allegedly used it to issue documents in another province.

Despite the gravity of the accusation, it is alleged that no formal investigation was carried out.

Sources also claim that Shumba is involved in multiple mining disputes, with accusations that some of the documents used may not be legitimate.

Concerns have been raised over the lack of action from authorities such as the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.

The allegations have sparked questions about accountability and transparency within the mining sector.

However, it is important to note that these claims remain unproven, and no official statements or charges have been confirmed against Shumba at this stage.

Authorities are yet to respond publicly to the matter.
