July is a month that is full of on-screen sports schedules to select from. DStv will feature live coverage of the Genesis Scottish Open from the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, hosted by SuperSport, the largest sports broadcaster in Africa, from Thursday, July 11 to Sunday, July 14, 2024.

The inaugural Scottish Open took place in 1972 and is considered a major qualifier for The Open Championship, which takes place the following week. It is sanctioned by the PGA Tour and the DP World [European] Tour. Players are rushing to meet the standards in order to qualify for the last major of the year in golf. It is also the last qualifying event for that major championship.

Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland is the current champion, having won the tournament for the first time in his career in 2023 by one stroke over Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre.

“It felt special to win the Genesis Scottish Open for the first time last season. Winning a national open is always impressive, and to do so in the home of golf, with such enthusiastic support from Scottish fans, made it an unforgettable week,” said McIlroy, who will return to the Renaissance club to defend his title.

Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose, Justin Thomas, Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland, Xander Schauffele, MacIntyre, Tom Kim, Wyndham Clark, and Collin Morikawa will all compete.

Clark went on: “I’ve enjoyed teeing it up at the Genesis Scottish Open over the past few years, and I’m looking forward to coming back to the Renaissance Club as part of what could be an exciting summer in Europe.”

Morikawa added, “I’m looking forward to returning to Scotland for what promises to be an exciting two weeks this summer. I learned a lot in my first appearance at the Genesis Scottish Open that I was able to apply to The Open, and I hope to have a great two weeks in front of the Scottish fans this July.”

The Genesis Scottish Open takes place at the Renaissance Club on a 7237-yard par 70 links course, with a purse of US$9 million.
