A 42-year-old businessman from Eastlea, Harare, will spend the next 15 years in prison for raping his employee. The Harare Magistrates’ Court delivered the sentence this week after finding the man guilty of the assault which took place at his office.
The court heard that the victim, a 25-year-old accounts clerk, began working for the offender in January 2025. The incident occurred in April 2025 after the boss assigned her extra duties while other staff members were leaving for the day. At around 18:00 hours, he called her to his upstairs office and demanded intimacy before forcing himself on her.
Following the initial assault, the man continued to make sexual demands, which the victim repeatedly refused. The woman eventually resigned from her position in March 2026. She later confided in a friend, who encouraged her to report the matter to the authorities.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) stated that they remain committed to ensuring justice for survivors.
“The NPAZ will continue its relentless push to bring all perpetrators of sexual abuse to book so that they face the full wrath of the law,” the authority said in a bulletin following the conviction.
Police arrested the man shortly after the report was made, leading to his successful prosecution. The magistrate emphasised that the heavy sentence serves as a warning that sexual violence and the abuse of power in the workplace will not be tolerated.
