A man from Harare Ben Mapfumo appeared in court after allegedly striking his mother on the head with an axe during a dispute at their home.
The incident reportedly began when Mapfumo, became upset after his mother scolded him for verbally harassing a tenant.
Following the assault, Mapfumo was reported to the police and subsequently arrested. In his initial bail hearing, he was remanded in custody after his mother declined to let him return home, expressing concerns for her safety. The court then advised Mapfumo to secure an alternative residence for consideration of his bail.

The court heard that the incident occurred on the evening of September 24. Mapfumo, reportedly intoxicated, was verbally abusing a tenant at the family residence. His mother took him aside in the dining room, urging him to stop. This reprimand allegedly angered Mapfumo, who then pushed her against a wall, demanding that she go to bed.
Mapfumo reportedly left the room, fetched an axe, and returned, placing it against his mother’s head and causing a cut. His wife’s screams reportedly halted further aggression, and Mapfumo left for his room.
