Hwange Teacher Jailed for 12 Months in Exam Fraud Scheme

A Hwange teacher who was involved in an exam fraud case received an eight-month prison sentence after writting math exams for three students

Mkululi Moyo was subsequently sentenced by the Hwange magistrates’ court to twelve months in jail, with four months of the sentence being suspended. He is set to serve 8 months in jail.

A Hwange magistrate first sentenced 48-year-old Mkululi Moyo to a year in prison, but four months of the term were postponed under certain conditions.

It was effectively proven by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) that Moyo had fabricated math tests for three Hwange High School pupils.

Moyo participated in this illegal agreement with an invigilator named Mark Bhebhe, who was paid US$150. At the moment, Bhebhe is avoiding capture.

Moyo falsely appeared as a student at Hwange High School in order to take the November 2023 Math paper 2 exam, as the court was informed. Answer sheets were completed by Moyo prior to the students’ examinations.

After giving the pupils these scripts, Bhebhe had them add their personal information before turning them in.

When Zimsec examiners found discrepancies between the handwriting in the personal details section and the remaining response scripts, they discovered the fraud in December. Investigations later on showed that the pupils attended Hwange High School.

The headmaster was shown the answer scripts by the investigative team when they visited the school on March 22. Moyo’s handwriting was recognized by the headmaster, which resulted in his detention.
