A man from Hwange has been sentenced to six months in prison after stealing a goat from his neighbor, slaughtering it, and selling the meat back to the owner.

The convict, 28-year-old Shylock Zulu from Mashala Village, was charged with stock theft and found guilty following a full trial.

Prosecutors presented evidence that on January 8, Zulu stole a goat from his neighbor, Thabani Sibanda.

He then slaughtered the goat and sold the meat to Sibanda for US$15, falsely claiming it was bushbuck meat.

Sibanda became suspicious that the meat might have come from his missing goat. An investigation was launched, leading to Zulu’s arrest.

However, Zulu avoided serving the full prison sentence.

Half of his six-month sentence was suspended on the condition that he does not commit a similar offense within the next five years.

The remaining three months were also suspended, provided that Zulu pays restitution of ZWG$1,057 to the complainant.
