Calls for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to remain in office beyond 2028 have gained momentum, as legislators from both Zanu PF and the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) have expressed their support.
The lawmakers emphasised the need for continuity in leadership to sustain Zimbabwe’s development trajectory.
Bipartisan Support for Mnangagwa’s Leadership
During a visit to the First Family’s Pricabe Farm in Kwekwe, the opposition Leader in Parliament, Mr Sengezo Tshabangu, made an unprecedented gesture of support.
Speaking directly to President Mnangagwa, he said, “If we approve your stay in power and the people of Zimbabwe are happy, let it be.”
Zanu PF Deputy Political Commissar Cde Webster Shamu reinforced the sentiment, highlighting a growing consensus among legislators.
“The MPs have voiced their concern that they want you to stay as the country’s President beyond 2028,” Shamu said.
Farming Excellence as a Symbol of Progress
The legislators toured Pricabe Farm, marvelling at the First Family’s productivity and innovation.
Mr. Tshabangu described the farm as a blueprint for national development, saying, “If we can have this kind of production in this country, then we will be able to grow and improve our nation’s food basket.”

Dr Thokozani Khupe, a CCC proportional representation MP, commended the President’s leadership in agriculture, calling it a model for restoring Zimbabwe’s status as the Breadbasket of Africa.
“What we have seen at the President’s farm is that development is achievable through learning and adapting,” Khupe stated.
Calls for Unity in National Development
The visit also emphasised the importance of unity and collaboration across political divides. Mr Tshabangu urged Zimbabweans to focus on coexistence and shared goals, saying, “We are Zimbabweans; we should be singing together, playing together, celebrating together.”
He promised to work in Parliament to foster unity and support initiatives that unite Zimbabweans.
Provincial Endorsements for Mnangagwa’s Stay in Office
The Midlands Province also supported calls for President Mnangagwa to extend his leadership beyond 2028.
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Cde Owen Ncube said, “As a province, we continue to call for your continued stay as President beyond 2030.”
Zanu PF Chief Whip Cde Pupurai Togarepi echoed this sentiment, saying the legislators were grateful for the opportunity to learn from the First Family’s agricultural operations.
