Northern Region Soccer League Officials Attempt to Block Karoi United Case

Martin Kweza, chairman of the Northern Region Soccer League, and his deputy, Sweeney Mushonga, reportedly made efforts to block the Karoi United case from being heard by the ZIFA appeals committee.

A source familiar with the situation told Soccer24 that Kweza and Mushonga, who were represented by their lawyers during the hearing on Tuesday, argued that Karoi United had withdrawn its appeal, attempting to prevent the case from going forward.

ZIFA General Secretary Yvonne Mapika Manwa had communicated with both Karoi United and Kweza on multiple occasions regarding the upcoming hearing. On November 9, she informed Karoi United that their appeal had been acknowledged, and on November 13, she sent a reminder to Kweza about the required records for the case.

The ZIFA Appeals Committee proceeded with the hearing, despite Scottland’s absence, and is expected to announce the verdict within seven days.

The committee may uphold the Northern Region Soccer League Disciplinary Committee’s decision to award Scottland a 3-0 victory in the match, which would promote them to the Premier Soccer League.

Alternatively, the committee could rule the match as a 1-1 draw, which would result in MWOS overtaking Scottland by a point. Another option is for the remaining two minutes of the match to be played to determine the final outcome.
