The Zimbabwe National Seniors Men’s Rugby Team, known as The Sables, has started training for their upcoming tour to Dubai and South Korea in November. Local players are practicing in Harare, while those overseas will join the team later this week. This tour is an important chance for The Sables to compete against strong teams like the United Arab Emirates and South Korea.
Head coach Pieter Benade is working hard to choose the best players for the trip. There is a lot of competition among the players, with experienced athletes and newcomers all wanting a spot on the team. Coach Benade and his staff are focused on creating the strongest team possible.
Captain Hilton Mudariki shared his excitement about being back in training and the tour ahead: “It’s great to be back. Everyone is excited to travel to new places and play in different conditions.”
Mudariki also mentioned the tough competition for key positions on the team. “It’s fantastic. Healthy competition helps us all improve. The more we challenge each other, the better the team will be.”

The Sables are studying how the UAE and South Korea play to prepare better. Mudariki said, “We’ve been watching their recent games. As more players arrive, we’ll have more video sessions to help us understand their strengths and weaknesses.”
In preparation for the tour, The Sables have played several matches against local teams, including a recent game where Zimbabwe A won 76-17 against the U20 team at Harare Sports Club. Another match is planned for this weekend.
Mudariki emphasized how important these practice games are: “We want to keep these games competitive. The U20s are tough opponents, and it’s important for us to learn from our mistakes and improve our game before the tour.”
He also encouraged fans to keep supporting the team, noting how much it helps them: “We appreciate all the fans who come out to support us. Their energy makes a big difference, and we hope even more fans will join us this weekend. Exciting times are ahead for Zimbabwean rugby.”
The final team for the tour will be announced later this week.
