After new coach Michael Nees selected his first-ever Warriors roster and technical team, Prince Dube, goalkeeper Washington Arubi, and team manager Sharif Mussa top the list of players who have returned to the national team.
The Warriors squad that was revealed will play Kenya and Cameroon in the Afcon 2025 Qualifiers in Uganda the following month. On Sunday, players are anticipated to go to camp in Kampala.
Nees will play his first game for the Warriors on September 6 when Zimbabwe takes on Kenya, followed by a match against Cameroon four days later.
Takesure Chiragwi will help Nees, who was unveiled last week, while Pernel McKop will serve as the goalkeepers’ coach.
Highlanders’ Abraham Mbaiwa will assume the position of fitness instructor.
Mussa, who hasn’t been active with the squad in a while, will serve as the team manager.
Goalkeeper Washington Arubi is also returning, though he’ll have competition from Donovan Bernard and teenage Marley Tavaziva of Brentford in England.
William Manondo, Khama Billiat, and Tymon Machope, the top three scorers in the local league with ten goals apiece, are left off the roster while Dube returns after finding success at Young Africans.
Rumors had suggested that Billiat may rejoin the national squad, but the wait is still on.
Mkhokheli Dube, a former striker for the Highlanders, believes Dube would succeed wearing Warriors uniforms.
“I believe the coach has demonstrated that he is selecting players based on their form, which is beneficial since it inspires confidence in other players as well. Given his recent form, I believe Prince has earned a call-up,” Dube stated.
Tinotenda Kadewere (FC Nantes), Obriel Chirinda (Ngezi Platinum), and Douglas Mapfumo (Polokwane City) round up the strikeforce.
Marvelous Nakamba, who might play for the first time in a long time this evening when his Luton Town squad plays in the Carabao Cup tonight.
For Zifa media, Hadebe’s inclusion—who is still “clubless”—was explained.
Zifa stated, “Teenage Hadebe has found a new club, but the club has asked to be the ones to make an announcement.”
The unexpected addition to the team is Andrew Mbeba, who hasn’t been playing for the Highlanders recently.
