The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS), the governing body behind Bindura Prison Primary School, has initiated a leadership training program for its students.
Additionally, ZPCS oversees Gwakwe Primary School in Guruve.
Commissioner Charity Gezi, the Officer Commanding Mashonaland Central Province for ZPCS, expressed confidence that these skills would equip students to become effective leaders in the future.
The leadership and team-building training, which focused on 45 prefects, took place during a seminar held in Bindura. The seminar covered various topics including conflict resolution, problem-solving, teamwork, and collaboration.

Commissioner Gezi emphasized the significance of strong leadership and its positive impact on society. She encouraged the prefects to serve as role models to their peers and exemplify good leadership qualities.
Furthermore, she noted that the seminar was beneficial not only to students but also to older individuals in leadership roles.
Munyaradzi Komati, the Principal Correctional Officer and head of the school, highlighted that genuine leadership is characterized by using power for the betterment of others rather than simply exerting authority. He urged the prefects to lead by example.
Last year, the Zimbabwe Prison Correctional Service (ZPC) has embarked on farming projects to provide inmates with practical skills, contribute to their rehabilitation and address food insecurity within the correctional services system.
