A Braeside resident, Evans Molani (36), finds himself in police custody after allegedly committing a heinous act against his 18-year-old maid last Saturday. Reports indicate that the incident occurred while Molani’s wife was away visiting her rural home.
According to Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the young maid was subjected to a traumatic ordeal at the hands of Molani, who had returned home in an inebriated state. Ignoring her resistance, Molani proceeded to force himself upon her, committing the crime of rape without the use of protection.
In the aftermath of the assault, the maid was taken for medical examination at the MSF Clinic to assess and document the physical and emotional toll of the incident.

Detailing the sequence of events, Inspector Chakanza revealed, “On February 10, at around 11 p.m., the accused arrived home intoxicated and demanded that the complainant serve him food, to which she complied. Subsequently, he seized the opportunity to perpetrate his reprehensible act, subjecting the young woman to a horrifying experience.”
Upon learning of the assault, the maid confided in the landlady, who encouraged her to inform Molani’s wife about the incident. As a result, Molani was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement authorities.
This case sheds light on the disturbing prevalence of sexual violence within households and underscores the importance of swift and decisive action in bringing perpetrators to justice.
The traumatic experience endured by the young maid serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for continued efforts to combat gender-based violence and safeguard the rights and well-being of vulnerable individuals within our communities.
