In a harrowing incident, two thigh vendors fell victim to a brutal assault near Mukuvisi River in Mbare last Saturday. The women, who had been solicited at Market Square in the CBD around 10 p.m., were taken to a secluded location where they were subjected to a horrifying ordeal.
Confirming the incident, Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza emphasized the importance of women avoiding loitering in vulnerable areas, particularly during nighttime hours.
According to Inspector Chakanza, the two victims were approached by two unidentified men who solicited their services. They agreed to accompany the men to a residence in Joburg Lines, Mbare. However, upon reaching the vicinity of Rufaro Stadium, the perpetrators diverted them to a secluded spot near Mukuvisi River, concealed within a maize field behind Gwinyai Primary School.

Once there, the assailants brandished a knife, threatening the women with violence if they refused to comply with their demands. The victims were robbed of their cellphones and cash, with one losing a Huawei cellphone and $70 in cash, while the other surrendered an Itel cellphone.
Following the robbery, the perpetrators then subjected the women to a horrific act of rape, disregarding their pleas for mercy. The attackers fled the scene after committing the assault, leaving the traumatized victims behind.
Subsequently, the victims were taken to the MSF clinic for medical examination and treatment, as authorities continue their investigation into the despicable crime.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers faced by vulnerable individuals, particularly those engaged in thigh work, and underscores the urgent need for enhanced safety measures and support services to protect them from such heinous acts of violence.
