Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the Director General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), has become embroiled in a scandal after intimate videos featuring him were leaked online.
The videos reportedly show Engonga, a close relative of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema, engaging in sexual acts with various women, including wives and daughters of senior government officials, military generals, and dignitaries.
The videos, which have circulated widely on social media, were filmed in different locations, including what appears to be Engonga’s office, sometimes with the national flag visible in the background. Engonga, who is known by the nickname “Bello” in his home country, is seen in the videos with multiple women, many of whom are linked to high-ranking political and military figures.
Engonga, 54, is the son of Baltasar Engonga Edjo’o, head of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), and the nephew of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. The scandal came to light during a separate investigation into alleged fraud, where authorities discovered a number of explicit videos and CDs during raids on Engonga’s home and office.
The individuals featured in the videos include the wives of high-ranking officials, such as the Director General of Police, as well as close family members of senior government figures, including the sister of President Obiang. While the recordings were reportedly consensual, their unauthorized release online has sparked widespread public outrage.
The controversy has raised concerns regarding ethical conduct and the integrity of public officials in the country. Local media outlets, including Ahora EG, have labeled the situation as unprecedented, highlighting the “flagrant violations” of professional standards by a senior government figure.
Equatorial Guinea’s Attorney General, Nzang Nguema, addressed the scandal, noting that consensual sexual relations, without coercion, are not criminal under the country’s current laws. However, he expressed concerns about potential public health risks and stressed the importance of a supportive environment for victims of non-consensual behavior or abuse. The Attorney General also emphasized the possible risk of sexually transmitted diseases arising from Engonga’s alleged activities.

In response to the scandal, the government swiftly suspended officials involved in any inappropriate sexual behavior in ministry offices as part of a broader “zero tolerance” policy aimed at preserving public trust. Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue condemned the actions, reaffirming the government’s commitment to maintaining ethics and integrity in public service.
The case has underscored the government’s dedication to upholding ethical standards and preventing future breaches of trust in its institutions.
