Sulumani Chimbetu turns a year older today
Today is Dendera maestro Sulumani Chimbetu’s birthday, and his social media page is a hive of celebrations across the internet. Since 2004, the Dendera music scene has been anchored by the vocalist, composer, guitarist, and farmer who leads the band Orchestra Dendera Kings.
He inherited his talent from his legendary father, the late Simon Chimbetu, whose memory and talent can never fade from the airwaves.
“Music runs in my DNA, so everything that is me is musically and artistically related, and my birthday cannot be separated from my fans,” commented Sulu. “Usually I don’t plan my birthday celebrations; I just get on with the surprise that my fans and family would have arranged for that particular season.”
“This year, there will be a celebration concert at Sherwood Golf Club on Sunday, June 2, where we will party with all of the Sulumani Chimbetu supporters. I am also pleased to announce that we will be touring the United States of America for the Africa Vibration Music Festival in Mckinney, Texas; following that, we will tour the United Kingdom for Zimfest in July.”
