Kylian Mbappé has once again come under scrutiny after Real Madrid’s 2-1 loss to Athletic Club on La Liga matchday 16.
The French forward faced criticism last week following his missed penalty in Real Madrid’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League. Despite the setback, manager Carlo Ancelotti showed confidence in Mbappé by allowing him to take another penalty in the match against Athletic Club on Wednesday.
Unfortunately, the 25-year-old missed again, which left Real Madrid trailing after Alejandro Remiro’s goal in the 53rd minute. Jude Bellingham equalized for the team in the 78th minute, briefly raising hopes for a comeback.

However, Gorka Guruzeta’s late goal secured a 2-1 victory for Athletic Club, pushing them into the top four of the La Liga standings with 29 points, five behind Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid is still four points behind league leaders FC Barcelona. The team will face Girona next in their upcoming La Liga fixture on Saturday.
