Limpopo Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has raised concerns after a video surfaced showing police officers activating their siren after receiving an aphrodisiac drink from a street vendor.

The footage, widely shared on social media, shows officers in a marked SAPS vehicle interacting with a vendor carrying a large container of the drink. The vendor hands the officers the drink and asks them to sound the siren, which they comply with, much to his delight.

Limpopo police spokesperson, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, confirmed that the officers, allegedly from the Vhembe district, appeared to be participating in the hawker’s marketing campaign using the police vehicle and siren.

Provincial Commissioner Hadebe has instructed Vhembe District Police Commissioner, Major General Eddie Van Der Walt, to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate disciplinary action against the involved officers in accordance with SAPS regulations and code of conduct.

This incident follows a pattern of questionable conduct among police officers. Last year, KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, criticized officers for shopping in full uniform, urging the public to report such behavior. Mkhwanazi, known for his strict approach, emphasized that officers should maintain professionalism at all times, including refraining from grocery shopping while in uniform.
