Siya and Rachel Kolisi, the well-known South African couple, have announced their divorce after more than ten years together, leaving fans devastated and calling for a national intervention.
The former Springboks captain, a two-time Rugby World Cup winner, and media personality Rachel share two children, Nicholas Siyamthanda and Keziah. They also adopted Siya’s younger siblings, Liyema and Liphelo, following their mother’s passing in 2009.
In a joint statement shared on social media on October 22, the couple revealed their decision to separate. They stated, “We wanted to share some important news with you. After much reflection and open conversations, we have mutually decided to end our marriage. This decision comes from a place of love, respect, and understanding that this is the best path forward for both of us.”
They emphasized their commitment to remain friends and co-parents, expressing their gratitude for the support they have received and asking for respect as they navigate this transition.
The news has prompted an outpouring of reactions on social media. Many fans expressed their sorrow over the split, with some suggesting that President Ramaphosa should intervene. One user on X remarked, “This is a national crisis; we need a family meeting to mediate between Siya and Rachel.”
Others echoed this sentiment, calling for a serious intervention to help the couple reconcile.

Siya Kolisi, who has often praised Rachel as his steadfast supporter, met her at a dinner party in Stellenbosch in 2012. The couple adopted Siya’s siblings in 2014 and welcomed their first child, Nicholas, in 2015. Siya proposed during a helicopter ride over Cape Town later that year, and they married in 2016, welcoming their daughter in 2017.
Siya led the Springboks to victory in the Rugby World Cup in both 2019 and 2023, with Rachel standing by his side. The family moved to Paris last year for Siya’s rugby career but returned to South Africa recently.
Rachel has also been a strong advocate for women’s empowerment and social justice. Together, they founded The Kolisi Foundation in 2020, aiming to make a positive impact in areas such as gender-based violence, education, and food security.
