The Israeli military alleges that Hezbollah is using a bunker located beneath a hospital in southern Beirut to store substantial amounts of cash and gold, effectively functioning as a financial center for the group.
Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), stated that the Israeli Air Force recently conducted targeted airstrikes on Hezbollah’s financial assets but deliberately avoided hitting the hospital. Hagari remarked:
“One of our main targets last night was an underground vault containing millions in cash and gold, which was used to fund Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel.”
He added that while the Israeli Air Force is monitoring the facility, they will not strike the medical center directly.
Israel has not provided concrete evidence to support its claims but released an animated graphic showing the bunker’s location, which was previously used to conceal Hezbollah’s former leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
Fadi Alameh, the hospital director, dismissed the allegations as unfounded and inflammatory, insisting that the facility only contains medical supplies and patients. He has called for an inspection by the Lebanese Army.

Israel estimates that around $500 million in cash and gold is stored in the bunker and is urging the Lebanese government and international organizations to prevent Hezbollah from utilizing these funds for conflict.
Israeli Chief of the General Staff Herzi Halevi confirmed that airstrikes targeting Hezbollah’s financial operations are ongoing, with approximately 30 sites struck recently.
Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have increased since October, following Israel’s retaliation against Hamas. Hezbollah has expressed solidarity with the Palestinians, resulting in frequent skirmishes along the Lebanese-Israeli border.
