Chinese robotics company Unitree has released a video showcasing its humanoid robot performing kung fu moves, highlighting recent upgrades in its balance and movement capabilities.
The robot, named G1, has been improved with a new algorithm that enables it to learn and perform a wide variety of movements, including martial arts strikes and kicks. In a teaser video shared by the Hangzhou-based company, the G1 can be seen walking through the streets while executing fluid martial arts techniques.
Unitree explained that the G1 humanoid robot, priced at $16,000, has been enhanced with powered joints in the arms, legs, and torso, granting it 23 degrees of freedom. This upgrade allows the robot to perform nearly any movement, making it increasingly versatile.
Earlier this month, Unitree also released footage of the G1 and its taller counterpart, the H1 model. The G1 was shown running and navigating rough terrain, while the H1 performed a coordinated routine with dancers at a Chinese New Year event.

Unitree’s advancements in humanoid robots align with a growing trend in the robotics industry, where companies like Honda, Hyundai’s Boston Dynamics, and Tesla are exploring robots to handle repetitive or hazardous tasks. In addition, Meta and OpenAI are also investing in robots that could help with physical tasks in the future.
The global humanoid robot market, which was valued at $1.8 billion in 2023, is expected to grow significantly, reaching over $13 billion in the next five years.
