The headmaster of Rivendale School, a private college in Domboshava, has found himself at the center of controversy after admitting in court that he had made romantic advances toward several students.
Tofara Chitsveto made the startling revelation at the Harare Civil Court, where he was seeking a protection order against fellow teacher Sibongile Mavingire, whom he accused of assaulting him in front of students.
Magistrate Meenal Naratom, visibly taken aback by the admission, questioned Chitsveto’s state of mind during the hearing. Despite admitting to proposing to students, he insisted that none had accepted his advances.
“We started this school together, but Sibongile has been spreading false rumors that I am dating students. She even assaulted me, humiliating me in front of the learners,” Chitsveto told the court.
Mavingire, however, argued that Chitsveto had a long history of inappropriate behavior toward students, claiming that half the school had received love proposals from him.

“As the head of guidance and counseling, students confided in me about the headmaster’s misconduct. Some reported being harassed, while others were falsely accused of immoral behavior after rejecting his advances,” she said.
She further accused Chitsveto of using school communication platforms to tarnish her image and that of another teacher after removing them from the school group.
The magistrate granted Chitsveto the protection order but the allegations against him have raised serious concerns about his conduct as an educator.
