Zimpapers Implements Gift Policy Amid Controversy Over Wicknell Chivayo's Presents

In response to recent controversy surrounding extravagant gifts received by employees, state-owned Zimpapers has enacted a new gift policy aimed at promoting ethical behavior among its staff.

The decision comes in the wake of controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo’s gifting of Toyota Aqua vehicles to radio presenters Phathisani Sibanda and Tinashe Chikuse following a radio interview last month.

To address concerns regarding potential conflicts of interest or undue influence on business decisions, Zimpapers has prohibited its officials and employees from accepting gifts valued over US$100 from clients, vendors, or business partners.

According to a memo signed by CEO Pikirayi Deketeke, gifts of nominal value, defined as less than $100, may be accepted as tokens of appreciation or goodwill, subject to approval from the employee’s supervisor or the HR department.

Furthermore, any gifts received on behalf of Zimpapers must be promptly reported to the appropriate authorities and recorded in the company’s gift declaration register for transparency and audit purposes.

The memo emphasizes the importance of adhering to cultural norms and preferences when giving gifts, urging employees to exercise discretion and integrity in their interactions.

Violation of the gift declaration policy may result in disciplinary action, including termination of employment, underscoring the seriousness with which Zimpapers regards ethical conduct.

Employees are encouraged to seek guidance from their supervisors or the HR department if uncertain about the appropriateness of a gift, ensuring compliance with the newly implemented policy.
