GENESIS Mangombe has been dismissed as Dynamos coach following a disappointing 1-1 draw against struggling Bulawayo Chiefs at Barbourfields on Sunday.
This decision came after a crisis meeting held by the Dynamos leadership yesterday.
Although club chairman Moses Maunganidze implied that Mangombe had resigned, the coach had been looking forward to upcoming matches even after Sunday’s encounter.
Lloyd “Mablanyo” Chigove, the first assistant coach, will temporarily take over the team’s management. His first challenge will be a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Matchday 23 fixture against league leaders Simba Bhora. Following that, Chigove will lead the team in CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round clashes against Zesco United of Zambia, with matches scheduled in Gaborone and Lusaka.

Sunday’s draw was Dynamos’ 12th of the season, with the team’s attack struggling to make an impact, having scored only 19 goals in 22 games. Fans outside Barbourfields on Sunday expressed their frustration and demanded Mangombe’s dismissal.
After the match, Mangombe attributed the draw to his team’s inability to convert chances. He noted, “We’re still grappling with the same issue. I thought acquiring a striker during the mid-season window would help, but we failed to do so. We need to make the most of the players we have and boost their morale, as some missed opportunities are inexcusable.”
Mangombe added, “We need a clinical finisher. The failure to score is a concern as we approach the CAF competition. We must explore tactics that include natural strikers and possibly use two forwards.”
When asked if he had submitted a wish list to the DeMbare leadership, Mangombe replied, “Yes, but that’s now a moot point. We didn’t secure a striker, so we must work with our current squad.”
