Magaya Moves to Halt ZIFA Elections in High Court Battle

YADAH Stars Football Club president, Prophet Walter Magaya, has approached the High Court in an effort to halt the upcoming ZIFA elections scheduled for January 25.

The case is set to be heard at 9 am today by High Court Judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi.

Magaya is one of five presidential candidates disqualified by the ZIFA Electoral Committee for failing to meet the association’s ethics and integrity standards.

In addition to seeking intervention from the High Court, Magaya has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland.

Other disqualified candidates, such as Benjani Mwaruwari and Gift Banda, have also lodged a joint appeal with CAS.

Magaya’s urgent application for an interdict is being handled by his lawyer, Everson Chatambudza.

The application aims to prevent the elections from taking place until the matter is resolved. The respondents named in the case include Mutasa, the chairman of both the Electoral and Normalisation Committees, along with the two committees themselves.

The Electoral Committee, which oversees the election process, has confirmed receipt of the High Court notice regarding Magaya’s application.

ZIFA, responding through external counsel, stated that the case should be addressed by CAS first, as the court has already been seized with the matter.

This legal development is attracting attention from various stakeholders, including FIFA, CAF, and COSAFA, all of whom are closely monitoring the situation.

The outcome of the High Court hearing will likely impact the upcoming election process and the candidates vying for leadership positions within ZIFA.
