ZANU PF’s Secretary for Mines and Energy, who also chairs the party’s Sports and Recreation Committee, Tarusenga Mushininga, is set to lead the Harare Province Youth League in organizing the upcoming Presidential Ball Games—a youth-centered sports event aimed at combating drug and substance abuse.
The event will be held on Friday, August 23, at Lewisam Primary School in Chisipite, running from 8 AM to 6 PM under the theme: “Say No to Drug Abuse.”
According to Mushininga, the tournament is part of a broader strategy to steer young people toward positive, productive activities.
“The Presidential Ball Games are designed to help young people focus on their education and athletics while avoiding drugs. We are working alongside the police and other government agencies in the ongoing fight against substance abuse,” he said.
The tournament will include netball matches featuring teams from Zones 1 through 6, promoting not only physical health and discipline but also community engagement and youth empowerment.
Several high-level government officials are expected to attend, including Information Minister Jenfan Muswere, who will be among the Guests of Honour.
Organisers underscored the value of sport as a unifying force and a key preventative measure against drug abuse, particularly among vulnerable young people.
