Zimbabwe Youth Group Condemns Attacks on Entrepreneur Reginald Tagwirei

Kudakwashe Tagwirei's Lavish 'Crossover' Event Sparks Discontent in SDA Church

The recent wave of criticism directed at businessman Reginald Kuda Tagwirei by former politicians Saviour Kasukuwere and Tendai Biti marks a troubling descent in Zimbabwe’s public discourse.

As President of the Zimbabwe Youth Action Platform (ZYAP), I find these accusations not only unfounded but emblematic of the political desperation displayed by individuals sidelined from national relevance.

These attacks, thinly veiled as political scrutiny, do more to expose the frustration of their authors than to offer any constructive critique.

At a time when the country needs unity and forward-thinking leadership, this smear campaign against Tagwirei undermines the efforts of those genuinely working toward national progress.

Tagwirei, a self-made entrepreneur, has consistently invested in youth empowerment, especially in underserved rural communities.

Through mentorship, community initiatives, and support for small business development, he has helped open doors for young Zimbabweans striving to improve their economic standing. His contributions align closely with Vision 2030, Zimbabwe’s roadmap to achieving upper-middle-income status, and reflect a commitment to the nation’s future rather than to political ambition.

Unlike his critics, Tagwirei has not positioned himself for political gain. His focus remains firmly on fostering entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and economic self-sufficiency. That his work receives support from President Emmerson Mnangagwa speaks not to political favoritism but to the national importance of economic empowerment initiatives.

Kasukuwere’s accusations, in particular, ring hollow. Once nicknamed the “Pope of Corruption” during his time in government, his record is clouded by serious allegations of mismanagement and misconduct. To see him now cast stones at someone contributing to nation-building is not only ironic—it’s disingenuous. Biti’s involvement in this campaign adds little weight, given that his political legacy is mired in party disputes and stalled reforms rather than meaningful development outcomes.

What’s especially concerning is how these political figures are attempting to turn public opinion against a private citizen who has consistently prioritized national progress over personal advancement. This shift in focus detracts from the real challenges Zimbabwe faces—youth unemployment, infrastructure deficits, and social inequality—issues these same politicians failed to address during their time in office.

Tagwirei’s growing respect among young people and stakeholders is a result of his impact, not media spin or political clout. The attempt to frame him as a threat to political order is not only baseless but actively harmful to a country trying to rebuild and move forward.

The time has come to put an end to these personal vendettas disguised as political commentary. Instead of clinging to the past and tearing down those who are contributing positively, Kasukuwere and Biti—and others like them—should reflect on their own roles in Zimbabwe’s challenges. Our future depends on collaboration and constructive action, not finger-pointing and divisive rhetoric.

As ZYAP, we urge a shift toward responsible leadership and national unity. Zimbabwe’s youth deserve better than recycled political feuds. We call on all leaders, past and present, to engage in efforts that uplift the nation, not drag it backward.
