Dorcas Vambe, a 36-year-old musician and spouse of Mambo Dhuterere, recently appeared before a Harare Magistrate facing allegations of defrauding a local politician of US$16,000 in a failed car purchase arrangement.
Prosecutors allege that Vambe, in collaboration with her brother, deceived the complainant by claiming they could procure a vehicle for him from Botswana.
The incident reportedly occurred in September, when the complainant expressed interest in purchasing a Toyota Hilux GD6 within his US$16,000 budget. Vambe and her brother, Kudakwashe Vambe who is reportedly still at large allegedly devised a scheme to misappropriate the funds.

The court was informed that the duo persuaded the complainant by asserting they had access to a dealership in Botswana offering such vehicles. They further claimed they could import two duty-free vehicles due to a waiver purportedly granted to Vambe by President Emmerson Mnangagwa as recognition for her musical contributions.
Enticed by the offer, the complainant handed over the money, which Vambe reportedly acknowledged through a notarized affidavit. The affidavit detailed her receipt of the funds and her commitment to deliver two Toyota Hilux GD6 vehicles within two weeks.
However, the promised vehicles were never delivered, prompting the complainant to report the matter to the authorities, leading to Vambe’s arrest.
Vambe was granted bail of US$100 and is scheduled to return to court on January 15.
