Brothers-in-Law Fight Over US$2

Gratitude Zhuwawo claims that after borrowing US$2 from her sister, she was physically attacked by her brother-in-law. This led her to request a protection order from the Harare Civil Court.

Blessing claims that Brian Mukuya refused to let her ask her sister for money, saying he is the only one who can meet their requirements. This resulted in a confrontation wherein Blessing was allegedly assaulted by Brian and was compelled to leave their parents’ home.

Blessing said, “I can’t leave when it’s my father’s house.” “Brian cannot evict me; he needs to accept his duty as an in-law. Even when I remove my renters, who were my source of income, he turns off the electricity because I am unable to pay the bill.”

Brian disputed the claims, saying there was no physical altercation and that Blessing neglected to tell their father about the problem. “I do not dictate terms to her; she simply does not contribute to the household expenses,” he said. After the hearing, the court gave Blessing a five-year protection order. Gratitude Zhuwawo.
