The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) standing committee has taken action against interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu, suspending him pending a disciplinary hearing. This decision comes after Tshabangu failed to attend crucial meetings, according to a statement from CCC interim committee deputy chairperson Albert Mhlanga.
Mhlanga highlighted concerns about Tshabangu’s repeated absence from meetings despite invitations, as well as his submission of a Bulawayo Senate and proportional representation replacement list to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) without the approval of the interim standing committee.
The suspension of Tshabangu is immediate, with the CCC party aiming to conduct a disciplinary hearing in due course.
Additionally, Mhlanga addressed the recent announcement by a CCC faction led by Harare mayor Jacob Mafume, appointing Welshman Ncube as an interim president based on the 2019 Gweru congress. Mhlanga declared this announcement null and void, emphasizing that the CCC led by former President Nelson Chamisa, who recently resigned, remains the formalized party.

The interim standing committee, currently led by interim chairman Dingilizwe Tshuma, will guide the party until a congress date is set.
Furthermore, Mhlanga criticized Tshabangu for engaging with individuals such as Mafume, Ncube, and Tendai Biti, who were not part of the interim standing committee that appointed him as interim secretary-general.
Regarding the Bulawayo Senate and Proportional Representation replacement list submitted by Tshabangu to Zec, the CCC camp announced its nullification.
Mhlanga accused Tshabangu of pursuing personal interests and criticized his decision to recall individuals in Mashonaland provinces without proper consultation. He emphasized the importance of Bulawayo in party formation and expressed dissatisfaction with Tshabangu’s actions.
Efforts to reach Tshabangu and his spokesperson Khaliphani Phugeni for comment were unsuccessful as their mobile phones were unreachable.
