Dynamos made history on Sunday by becoming the first team to win the Chibuku Super Cup in back-to-back years, defeating Ngezi Platinum Stars in a dramatic penalty shootout at Rufaro Stadium.
The match ended 1-1 after 120 minutes, with penalties required to determine the winner. This was a rematch of last year’s final, where Dynamos triumphed 2-0 at Baobab Stadium, and their second meeting in just two weeks after Ngezi Platinum Stars won 2-0 in a rescheduled Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at the same venue.
Ngezi Platinum Stars took the lead in the 23rd minute when Obriel Chirinda found the back of the net, and they looked to be in control for much of the match.
However, Dynamos equalized in the 78th minute thanks to a goal from Ghanaian Frederick Ansah-Botchway, forcing the game into extra time.

After a goalless extra time, the match went to penalties, where Dynamos showed impressive composure, converting all four of their spot-kicks. Goalkeeper Martin Mapisa emerged as the hero, saving two of Ngezi Platinum Stars’ attempts.
Frank Makarati, Temptation Chiwunga, Eli Ilunga, and Issah Sadiki all scored for Dynamos, while Mapisa saved penalties from Moses Demera and Farai Madhanaga, sealing the victory.
This victory secured Dynamos their second consecutive Chibuku Super Cup and a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup for the second year running.
For Ngezi Platinum Stars, the loss was particularly bitter, as it marked their fourth defeat in the Chibuku Super Cup final in the last five years.
