First Cabinet Meeting of the Year Convened

Today marks the inaugural Cabinet session of the year as ministers reconvene after the festive break. In anticipation of continuing the country’s developmental strides, the Second Republic aims to build upon the successes achieved in the previous year.

President Mnangagwa, in the final cabinet meeting of 2023, emphasized the need for ministers to capitalize on past achievements and intensify efforts toward industrialization and modernization in alignment with Vision 2030. Addressing concerns about unaddressed agenda items due to lapses in memorandum submissions, the President urged ministers to prioritize issues and submit relevant memoranda promptly to ensure focused deliberations.

Highlighting the importance of good administration and accountability, the President discouraged the practice of introducing substantive matters under “Any Other Business” and emphasized the detrimental impact of late memorandum submissions on constructive debate. Ministers were urged to conduct regular self-assessments of their portfolios to facilitate coordinated programming.

With heightened expectations on the Second Republic following the electorate’s renewed mandate in the 2023 elections, President Mnangagwa called for unwavering commitment from all stakeholders to meet the demands of the populace.
