Discovery Ambulance Services yesterday rolled out a free medical outreach programme at the historic Dzapasi Assembly Point, offering vital healthcare services to war veterans and members of the surrounding community.
The programme provided free medical check-ups, consultations and treatment, helping to improve access to healthcare for people who often struggle to receive timely medical attention.
Dzapasi Assembly Point holds great national importance as it was used as a demobilisation centre for liberation fighters at the end of Zimbabwe’s liberation war in 1979. The outreach event therefore served both a medical and commemorative purpose, honouring those who fought for the country’s independence.
The event was attended by senior national leaders, including Munyaradzi Machacha, who was the last commander at Dzapasi Assembly Point, and O.C.Z Muchinguri-Kashiri, who attended as Guest of Honour. Their presence underscored the importance of recognising and supporting liberation war veterans.
Caring for Those Who Fought for the Nation
Speaking at the event, David Munowenyu, the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Discovery Ambulance Services, said war veterans deserve dignified and quality healthcare.
He said the organisation deployed fully equipped ambulances, experienced doctors and other healthcare professionals to carry out medical assessments and provide immediate treatment where needed.
Munowenyu added that access to healthcare for all citizens is one of the values Zimbabweans fought for during the liberation struggle, and ensuring this access remains a shared national responsibility.
Supporting Vision 2030
The outreach programme supports Zimbabwe’s development goals under Vision 2030 and NDS2 by promoting equal access to healthcare, particularly for those who made sacrifices for the nation.
Discovery Ambulance Services continues to focus on emergency medical response, preventive healthcare, community outreach programmes and nation-building through health.
