TRADITIONAL leaders and local authorities has been urged to stop settling home seekers on wetlands.
Speaking on Wednesday at the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction Minister of Local Government and Public Works July Moyo said traditional leaders and local authorities must stop settling people in wetlands.
“Esteemed Traditional Leaders and Local Authorities should avoid settling people in wetlands and water ways and encourage them to construct structures that can withstand extreme weather conditions,” Moyo said.
“The public should also follow laid out plans when constructing houses in both rural and urban areas. It is typically important that particular care is taken to ensure that critical infrastructure is built to last by ensuring that location and hazard-appropriate planning regulations and building codes are enforced,” he said.
