The City of Harare is poised to tackle its notorious traffic congestion with a major bypass project. The planned road over rail bridge will provide a direct link from the airport to the city center, significantly reducing travel time.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, Felix Mhona, revealed that detailed designs for the bridging of multiple tracks have been finalized. The search for a contractor is underway, with construction expected to commence soon.

This development is part of a broader effort to revamp Harare’s transportation infrastructure. The Harare ring road, which had missing links in the southern sections, is being addressed. Additionally, 37 roads in the Greater Harare area are being rehabilitated, with landscaping and street light repairs also underway.
The project’s benefits will be far-reaching. Commuters will enjoy reduced travel times, while businesses will benefit from improved access to the airport and city center. The increased connectivity will also boost economic growth and development in the region.

Outside Harare, road construction projects are progressing, including the Murambinda to Birchenough Road and Marondera to Wedza Road. Minister Mhona assured that all detours and roads in poor condition are being attended to, promising a significant reduction in traffic congestion soon.
