WHILE the nation is still struggling to come to terms with the brutal murder of a Zimbabwean national, Elvis Nyathi in South Africa, back home a Bulawayo court is also dealing with a similar case of hate crime after a woman assaulted her neighbour with a metal bar several times on the forehead.
Beatrice Munsaka from Binga in Matabeleland North who stays at Gumtree plots on the outskirts of Bulawayo is lucky to be alive after Sindisiwe Ncube (20) assaulted her with a metal bar several times on the forehead and on the left shoulder after accusing her of practicing witchcraft.
Ncube is alleged to have branded Munsaka a witch just because she was from Binga.
Binga is among some of the districts in the country like Zaka in Masvingo and Chipinge in Manicaland province whose mere mention conjures up stories of witchcraft sophistry, murder for revenge purposes and killing for ritual purposes.
Allegations are that on 31 March 2022 and at a plot in Gumtree, Ncube and her accomplice Minenhle Thulisani Nyathi who is still at large had an argument with Munsaka after branding her a witch.
It is reported that the duo claimed that since Munsaka was from Binga she was practicing witchcraft.
It is yet to be proven that at the height of a misunderstanding the duo took a metal bar which they used to attack Munsaka with several times on the forehead and on the left shoulder.
Munsaka who sustained injuries was referred to hospital for medication.
The matter was later reported to the police leading to Ncube’s arrest.
For the offence Ncube has since appeared in court charged with assault as defined in Section 89 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.
She was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody.
