Heal US Zimbabwe‘s walkathon crew, Columbus Mushore, Kudakwashe Maputa, Terrence Shenje, and Terrence Mpofu, have arrived in Harare, completing their 568 kilometers from Beitbridge to Harare in a fight against drug and substance abuse.
The quad were welcomed by Harare residents with a march that began at Robert Mugabe Square and ended at Rowan Martin in Harare. The walkathon heroes were joined by students and other progressive Hararians who are against the use of drugs and substance abuse.
The official welcoming ceremony was done at Rowan Martin, with the Honorable Senator C. Tavengwa as the guest speaker. Speaking at the event, the Minister of State and Devolution for Harare Province thanked Heal US Zimbabwe for hosting a great initiative to combat drug and substance abuse.
He also mentioned that drugs and substance abuse are becoming a security threat in Harare and the country at large, as youths are being destroyed by drugs. ” The day the quad began their walk from Beitbridge to Harare, President Mnangagwa launched the Multi-Sectoral Drug Action Plan, which shows the country’s commitment to fight against drugs,” said Senator Tavengwa.
He urged citizens to continue to be agents of change in the fight against drugs and substance abuse.

Heal Us Zimbabwe coordinator, Elton Ziki, appreciated the honorable Tavengwa for warmly welcoming the quad after spending 24 days on the road. He also highlighted the need for collective effort in the fight against drugs, as the nation will lag behind in terms of recruiting a workforce.
He also appreciated the people who partnered with them in organizing the walkathon. He gave an opportunity to his partners, Mushangashe Vocational Centre, who said they were inspired by His Excellence’s determination to fight against drug and substance abuse, hence the partnership with Heal Us Zimbabwe.
”As Heal Us Zimbabwe, we appeal to our government to establish rehabilitation centers in Harare and all other provinces in Zimbabwe”, said Mr. Ziko in a plea to the government officials who were present. He also said he wants the government to pass an act whereby students get tested before admission to institutions of higher learning.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Chief Superintendent Moyo thanked Harare City Mayor for making the extra effort to create a safer Harare. He also urged members of the public to have vital support for community progress in this fight against drug abuse.
”Drug and substance abuse is a serious crime, and we have intensified our efforts to thwart the abuse of drugs in the province of Harare. ”

Mr. Matizwa from Makumbe Hilton College in Domboshava donated food to the quad for their brilliant effort in the fight against drugs. ”Columbus and his team, we have supported you from the beginning, and we will continue to support you”, said Mutizwa before donating food to the walkathon heroes.
Beitbridge Member of Parliament, who provided food for the heroes, also attended the event in Harare. Heal Us Zimbabwe walkathon heroes arrived in Harare this afternoon, all of them fit and healthy.
