Controversial cleric Emmanuel Makandiwa has been okayed by the High Court to evict close to 300 families occupying his 36 hectare stand in Waterfalls Retreat Park today.
Speaking to the media, one of the affected residents of the imminent eviction pleaded with the Man of Cloth to reconsider his move.
“What happened is that we have been battling with the Makandiwa led UFIC for close to 3 years over this piece of land which we got from the Apex Housing Cooperatives around 2012
” We later that the piece did not belong to the cooperative in 2019 when UFIC was earmarked for a church premise but we contested that it was too big for such a development. It was then put to us that the Prophet wanted to also sell residential stands to his congregants, “said the resident who requested anonymity.
The residents have been given up to Thursday to vacate the place.
” It is disheartening that the eviction is coming at a time we are now in the rainy season and knowing that Makandiwa is close to President Emmerson Mnangagwa we seek his mercy because most of the beneficiaries of these residential stands are Zanu PF supporters, “added the distressed resident.
The residents said they are willing to negotiate for a payment plan with the cleric so that they can continue to settle on this piece of land.
Waterfalls Retreat Park lies in Harare South constituency which is represented by President Mnangagwa’s nephew Tongai.
Efforts to get a comment from Makandiwa were fruitless.
