Parents and guardians seeking boarding school placements for their children can begin submitting applications this week, as the electronic enrolment system is set to launch.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in Zimbabwe has announced that the electronic enrolment platform for Form One applicants will go live on Friday, November 1, 2024. This marks the beginning of the admission process for the upcoming 2025 academic year.
Parents have until December 31 to apply through the Electronic Ministry Application Platform (Emap) at [www.emap.co.zw]. The Ministry encourages early access to the platform, as boarding spaces are limited.
In their announcement, the Ministry stated: “Parents and guardians wishing to enroll their children in boarding schools should start applying via the platform from November 1 to December 31, 2024.”
How the Emap System Works
The Emap system allows applicants to select up to five schools. If a child is accepted into one school, they will be automatically withdrawn from consideration at the others unless they decline the offer. Notifications of acceptance will be sent via SMS from the respective school heads.
The Ministry has noted that competition for spaces is intense, and families should have alternative plans in case they are unable to secure a boarding placement. Applicants can track their application status through the system, with updates indicating whether their status is “pending,” “accepted,” or “processed,” and rejections will be communicated if criteria are not met.

Introduced in 2016, this platform aims to enhance transparency in the enrolment process, addressing past issues where fees were charged for entry exams despite limited availability. The Ministry has clarified that enrolment will be based on Grade Seven results to ensure fairness.
Despite improvements in the process, there are significant capacity challenges, with only 25,000 spots available for over 400,000 students who completed Grade Seven this year.
