Passport & Toll Fee Hikes Reduced For Cost-Conscious Citizens

Finance Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube has reconsidered his initial plan to raise tollgate charges, reducing the proposed increase from 100% to 50% following opposition in Parliament.

Originally, the toll fees for light automobiles were set to rise from US$2 to US$5 in the 2024 national budget.

However, in response to concerns, Ncube announced a scaled-back increase, emphasizing fairness and a potential tiered structure for toll fees closer to the city.

Additionally, passport fees, initially proposed to increase from US$120 to $200, may be adjusted to USD $150 after representations from legislators, with express passports set at USD $250 to fund road infrastructure development.
