Oriyano, a young artist whose voice is often compared to Jah Prayzah, made a strong impression at the National Arts Merit Awards (Namas) in Harare on Saturday. His exciting performance wowed the audience, confirming his place as a talent worthy of Zimbabwe’s biggest stages.

He performed his songs “Makarima Mupoto” and “Marema,” earning enthusiastic cheers for his singing, stage presence, and charisma. After the event, Oriyano, whose real name is Kudakwashe Royne Kachehiko, expressed his gratitude for the support he received.

“We are thankful for the recognition at Nama 2025. It inspires us to keep growing. Performing with Zimbabwe’s best was an honor,” he said, also thanking his dancers and artistic director for their contributions.

At just in his early 20s, Oriyano is a multi-talented artist. He sings, produces music, designs fashion, writes poetry, draws, and beatboxes. After six years in the industry, he feels he is finally breaking through.

He appreciates the comparisons to Jah Prayzah, calling him an icon, but emphasizes that he is focused on his own journey. “I respect him and want to learn from him and other great artists,” he explained.
