In Harare, the police have initiated a search for six armed robbers who targeted a financial services company, absconding with a substantial sum of US$700,000.
Equipped with iron bars, explosives, and firearms, the assailants launched their assault on the company premises, violently confronting on-duty employees.
Their operation focused on the operations manager’s office, where they forcibly accessed a safe through explosives, securing US$716,340 along with two small cash boxes, three laptops, and a bag. Additionally, a pistol was stolen during the raid.
While fleeing, the perpetrators dropped US$5,000, two laptops, and a grinder. Notably, the stolen cash was designated for the company’s clientele and had been delivered to the offices earlier that Friday.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesperson, disclosed that investigations are ongoing, suggesting that the possibility of insiders leaking information to the robbers is being explored.
“We suspect that there may have been a breach of information from individuals within the company,” Nyathi stated. “This underscores the importance for companies to exercise discretion in divulging financial details, even among their staff, including security personnel.”
