Senegal Star Krépin Diatta Slams CAF with Corruption Allegations

Senegal's Krépin Diatta Accuses CAF of Corruption Following AFCON Exit

Senegal star player, Krépin Diatta, expressed strong criticism against CAF, alleging corruption after his team’s elimination from the 2023 AFCON on Monday.

The Teranga Lions suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 defeat on penalties to Ivory Coast, marking their exit from the tournament in the Round of 16. Despite taking the lead through Habib Diallo, Senegal faced disappointment as Ivory Coast’s Franck Kessié leveled the score from a late penalty.

Diatta voiced his frustration with the refereeing decisions during the game, particularly highlighting the non-awarding of a penalty for what he believed was a foul on Ismaïla Sarr by Odilon Kossounou.

In a fiery exchange with reporters in the mixed zone, Diatta exclaimed, “You’ve killed us, you’re corrupt! Keep your African Cup! You go and consult VAR to give them a penalty, but a guy (Sarr) runs 40 metres, overlaps, breaks into the box, and you can’t go and look at the VAR. I’m sorry, but it’s ridiculous. I’m really sorry, but they’ve killed our competition there.”
