Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, spokesperson for the Midlands provincial police, affirmed that an investigation is underway into a sudden death case that transpired in Gweru on Friday evening.

“On Friday at around 8PM, the now deceased Theophelus Chakoma (16) of Windsor Park, Gweru had a misunderstanding over the issue of a missing memory card with Otilia Chihwawa (21) who is employed as a domestic worker by his parents,” he said.

Inspector Mahoko mentioned that Chakoma’s parents resolved the matter.
“At around 8:21PM, Theophelus retired to bed and the next morning at around 5AM, Otilia discovered Theophelus hanging from a mango tree in the yard. He used a necktie to take his life,” he said.
The incidence of young children taking their own lives has been increasing.
In recent weeks, a deeply alarming occurrence that deeply affected the community, a 9-year-old boy from Gokwe was discovered hanging from the household dish drying rack after misplacing his school socks. Authorities were currently investigating this tragic incident, initially suspected to be a case of suicide.
