PEOPLE have been warned against vandalising railway equipment.
The call was made by Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckson Julius Chakanza, following the sentencing of a Mbare trio for stealing and vandalising railway equipment worth $26 100.
Lionel Jambo (32), Gift Musabayana (24) and Paul Sigauke (22) – were all sent to jail.
“We appreciate the 10-year jail sentence handed down by the Harare Magistrate Court to each of the three convicts for the theft and vandalising of National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) property,” said Insp Chakanza.
“The sentence is deterrent and, indeed, a welcome gesture, given the continued increase of cases of thefts and vandalism of State resources.
“The trio were, on the 22nd of April 2022, found at Mbare Magaba area by police in possession of 12 brake gear pins of railway wagons and two vertical levers, all confirmed to be NRZ property, valued at $26 100.
“We call upon all members of the public not to tire in supplying us with information that may help to bring to book all culprits bent on vandalising public resources.
“All current and prospective offenders should be warned that the long arm of the law will always catch you,” said Insp Chakanza.
